Timothy E. O'Connell, Ph.D. is a professor at Loyola University Chicago, where he specializes in values and ethics.  He's the author of a dozen books and numerous articles. His most recent books are Let Your Spirit Breathe: Living with Joy and Peace, Good People, Tough Choices: Making the Right Decisions Every Day and Tend Your Own Garden: How to Raise Great Kids Thomas More Publishing).

O'Connell's university teaching has prepared thousands of men and women to serve as ministers in various religious denominations, as providers of dedicated social service, and as citizens living out of committed values and clear ethics.

O'Connell's career has also involved a wide range of speaking situations, from lectures to workshops.  Well-known as a dynamic speaker, he's addressed audiences across the U.S., and in Canada, Australia, and Guam.  He's also shared his ideas via television and radio.  Recently, he appeared on NBC-TV's Weekend Today Show to discuss Tend Your Own Garden, which was also featured on the MSNBC website.

Professional activities have included twelve years as an academic administrator and contributions as an ethics consultant to governmental bodies and the health care industry.  In 2002 O'Connell was appointed to a two year term as Interim Chair of the Department of Communication at Loyola.  One of the instructional units in Loyola's College of Arts and Sciences, Communication serves the third largest group of undergraduate majors in the College.  Then in 2004 he was appointed the university's Assistant Provost for Faculty Administration.
